The Bonsai Society is holding these courses to fast track newcomers and to receive a good grounding of the basics in bonsai.
You can never stop learning about bonsai so this course is designed to give you your first steps which will help you build up your skills.

The basics of bonsai will be covered during the morning of the course and in the afternoon you will watch a complete demonstration in creating a bonsai-in-training. We will use the knowledge you have learnt in the morning sessions and then have a Q & A session.

There will be a critique session and you may to bring in some of your bonsai for review and improvement. You may choose to bring up to 3 trees to discuss with mentors or display during the Q&A session. We hope this course will whet your appetite and kick start the love of bonsai as it becomes a life-long passion.

The course is broken down into 5 sections and will cover most of the areas you need to know to get started in Bonsai. Different speakers
will address you in the morning and assist in the afternoon session. We ask you to be punctual as we have a lot of cover.

The course numbers are limited and are run for new members, people who need a refresher, and interested members of the public.

Introduction, Basic Horticulture, 
Bonsai Tools & Equipment, Bonsai Styles

9.30am – 10.30am
Selecting Stock , Selecting Pots, Bonsai Soil mix

10.30am – 11.00am
Morning Tea

11.00am – 12.00pm
Tree Design & Styling, Branch & Leaf Pruning, Wiring

12.00pm – 1.00pm
Lunch

1.00pm – 2.00pm

Root Pruning, Potting, General Care 

Practical Soil mix creation

2.00pm – 4.00pm
 A complete practical demonstration from raw material to potting of a bonsai-in-training.

Question & Answer session
